College Scholarship Program
The Hopedale High School Alumni Association presented its first college scholarship to Pearl E. Proctor, from the graduating class of 1935. The scholarship of $50 helped Miss Proctor pay her tuition at Becker Business College in Worcester. Since 1935, the Alumni Association has given scholarships every year to deserving Hopedale High graduates.
Today, the Association awards four kinds of scholarships:
Alumni Scholarships totaling $7,000 a year that are funded by donations from HHS graduates,
families and friends.
Private Scholarships given by families to honor loved ones and recognize students who excel in such areas as leadership, art, or athletics. In 2017, these scholarships totaled over $4,000.
Horne Memorial Scholarships are provided from a bequest to the Alumni Association by Glendon and Dorothy (Dutcher) Horne. These scholarships are available to the current graduating class and to graduates of the previous year who are in their first year of college. A total of $66,000 was awarded in 2017.
Class Scholarships are normally given when a graduating class celebrates its 10th, 25th, 50th, or other reunion year. These scholarships, from the donations of class members, are typically for $500 to $2,000.
Alumni Association scholarships in 2017 totaled more than $81,000 to 30 outstanding Hopedale students. Donations to the scholarship fund are always welcomed and needed. Help us to help these deserving students!
